Maryland Turkey Farms

The below 2 Maryland Turkey farms and ranches sell direct to consumers. Any heritage breeds, free-range or specialty services are listed next to the farm. Why buy local? Freshness, care, variety and the ability to deal directly with the person raising your livestock or poultry. This list isn't necessarily meant to be a complete listing, but more of a listing of consumer-oriented farms that focus on quality. If you are looking for a great place to buy fresh meat then stop here first. Also, please shoot me your experiences (positive or negative) or help me add any that should be listed here. To submit a request, go to the add or update a farm page or email me the information - farms(AT)tipsforBBQ.com.

Freshness is probably one of the best reasons to buy poultry locally. In my Smoked Thanksgiving Turkey recipe I explain what to look for when buying a turkey. In short, avoid "enhanced" turkeys especially if you'll be brining it. By supporting your local farmers you'll can get the same great birds from year to year AND they'll be fresh.

We raise our Berkshire pigs in open fields and wooded areas, and do provide our customers with BBQ pigs. We do not sell frozen pigs, we take them to the butcher on Tuesdays and they are kept at 38 degrees until they are picked up. We allow our customers to come pick out a live pig if they would like.

We manage our livestock with three primary goals in mind: happy animals, healthy land, and healthful food. Continual rotation onto fresh, green pasture helps us work toward all three. We never use any antibiotics, growth hormones, or parasiticides (a.k.a. “de-wormers”). Sunlight and decomposition (rest) take care of parasites before they cause problems. Please see our website for much more information.
