What does WSM stand for?

Also Known As: Weber Smokey Mountain

WSM -

WSM WSM is the commonly used acronym for Weber Smokey Mountain (WSM) smokers. For those looking for a charcoal-powered smoker the WSM should be at the top of your list. It has been a staple among the backyard barbecue and competition barbecue crowd for the last 3 decades. Although they are priced higher than similar knock-offs they are reliable, spacious and have great temperature control.

The cooker is comprised of 3 sections – the charcoal basket (where the charcoal/wood goes), a cooking section for the water pan and grates, and the traditional Weber lid. A water pan acts as a barrier from the heat to create the indirect heat source required for cooking barbecue. It also works to keep the cooking chamber moist and can even be spiked with fruits/herbs to infuse extra flavor into your BBQ.

The WSM’s come in 2 different sizes the 22.5-inches and 18.5-inches wide. Both have great capacities and are made to the same standards expected from a weber grill. For more videos and details from sample cooks check out Virtual Weber Bullet.

If you're looking for a smoker to start learning how to barbecue then just add a charcoal chimney starter, a bag of charcoal and wood then you’ll be barbecuing in no time!
