Rusty's Tips and Tricks

I post new articles and BBQ recipes weekly. You can check back often or you can friend me on FB to get my wall posts. For all major additions I'll send out an update so you can see it immediately. I also love to hear your feedback and see your pictures.

Below I list a few general rules of thumb followed by links to the latest tips and BBQ definitions. On each of the articles I post I try to include Youtube videos from me or others to help explain how to do something. This section will grow over time - after all this is TIPS FOR BBQ!!

Barbecuing Do's

  • Invest in a good pen instant-read thermometer. Why not double up and get some oven thermometers to leave in the meat as well - they're inexpensive.
  • Wrap your meet when it has formed a decent crust - this will help from burning the outside while you're getting up to temp.
  • Keep good notes of your successes (and almost as important your failures)
  • Take the time to learn your barbecue smoker or grill. They all have their own temperaments.
  • Check back often as this section will change quite a bit

Barbecuing Don'ts

  • Give up. Feel free to ask me any questions if you have any big/little questions.
  • Try a new recipe once and give up. Some cookbooks don't give a lot of background or safeguards.
  • Change too many ingredients at the same time when experimenting.
  • Eat all of it when you're checking to see if its done!
  • Don't invite the entire neighborhood over until you've mastered a dish AND your smoker/grill. (its easier doing smaller quantities for patient people).
